Super Koko Kongs Cereal

I created a couple of these faux Monster Cereal boxes last halloween (CLICK HERE!), and promised to do a few more but never really got around to it, so this year I'm back on it and here's the first one-- since clearly KING KONG deserves to have one named after him too-- it's SUPER KOKO KONGS CEREAL! The only breakfast cereal in history that actually requires you to floss after eating!

Halloween Trek

There are still a few people out there who seem somehow completely unaware that the Michael Myers mask from the undying Halloween films is actually a William Shatner "Captain Kirk" mask from the original Star Trek tv series. So for them, I thought I'd put together 3 examples to showcase how similar the... ummm, mask actually... errr, is with the... hmmmm, actor. Hard to tell a diff! FYI: The very bottom image was done by my incredibly talented co-hort who actually encouraged this outrageous photoshoppery in the first place! ;)

Hillbilly Game Book ('67) from Mountain Dew

A recent chance meeting at an antique mall with a Pepsi Product collector led me to finally acquiring something I've spent most of my entire life searching for-- the freebie giveaway Hillbilly Game Book from Mountain Dew! I probably paid too much for it, but unlike the few I have encountered in the past (specifically on eBay) this one is in near mint condition, and for a 60's game book-- NOT SCRIBBLED IN AT'ALL!!! YA-HOOO!!! Incredibly illustrated in the fun, cartoony hillbilly style that Mountain Dew eventually ditched for their more familiar "action extreme" image, this hilarious little booklet from '67 is packed full of wonderfully corny gags, puzzles, colorin' pages and OMG even an order form for two more things I guess I shall now begin my hunt for! (*kicks a can.) And what's this post got to do with Holler'ween, ya ask? Borrow some of them thar riddles to git some sugar coated vittles while yer out trick 'r treatin' this year! Ooo-wee, thems makes yo' Pappy giggle!

ALSO: If you've never seen the very first, fully animated Mountain Dew commercial, CLICK HERE! Shor' do wish the game book had some more of beautiful Sal! xXx

Patrick Owsley Originals

Some of you might know I was an art director for a certain public domain DVD company in the early 2000's, and during that time I was fortunate enough to work with a slew of really great Los Angeles talent. One guy in particular was Patrick Owsley, who, unlike the other artists in my fabulous bull pen of consistent cover art designers, actually delivered hand crafted artwork (not digital files) of perfectly penciled roughs, and gorgeously painted --or in this case, color marker-- masterpieces on paper. Patrick was my go-to guy for all of the classic character covers, mostly the big recognizable characters from WB, Harvey, Fleischer, etc., and below is just a small sampling of the few remaining original pieces by him in my collection, (keeping in line with Halloween I thought I'd post the spookier themed covers!) And as you can see, if you needed an artist who could totally nail a character with 100% ON MODEL precision, it's Patrick. I love his Casper and Three Stooges cover, and this is just one of the many great Clutch Cargo covers he did for me (fyi: these are the full DVD cover spreads, just draw a line down the middle for where the spine position went-- later I added the titles, synopsis, episode info and boiler to the front/back cover.) The J. Evil Scientist art was something I commissioned him to do specifically for me, and I will cherish it forever!

Contact Patrick for info on how to get your own original piece of art directly from him, and check out lots more on his amazing blog HERE, and be sure to find him on Facebook as well!

The Ecchorcist

We'll take a hallow-breather from the creepy cute vintage greeting cards for a bit and read a story based on a spooky film favorite-- The Exorcist!  Many people remember the October 1974 issue of MAD Magazine #170, they did a hilarious send-up of The Exorcist called "The Ecchorcist", written by Larry Siegel and illustrated by the great Mort Drucker. But who remembers that the August 1974 issue of CRAZY Magazine #6 had their own barf bag version of the same film, also retitled "The Eccorchist!??!!" No fooling'! Penned by good 'ol Marv Wolfman, and artistic duties went to Vance Rodewalt (plus a nice cover painting by Kelly Freas too!) I'll have another weird, related piece from this issue in our next possessed... errrrr... post too-- oh, and if anyone wants to see the MAD Magazine version, just hang tight, that's coming up too!
